The Others

I love you because even though we don't cuddle (as much) anymore, you always have to intertwine your legs around mine when we are drifting off to sleep.

Most of us (me and you) are crafty type people. When we blog, it's usually about our projects, goals, and dreams for our arts or crafts. Many blogs I read are only about crafting or designing. Every now and then we write about our families but most of the time, it's about crafting.

I know crafting and taking care of our families are not the only things we do. I have lots of other hobbies or things that I really enjoy doing. Here are five things that I do when I'm not crafting:

1. Running. I am currently training for a half marathon at the end of this year. I've been running since I was 18 but I finally want to do it competitively. My training is not strict because of my schedule. I am taking it easy to build up to the 13.1 miles I am wanting to run sometime this winter. My first race will be a 5k this April. I was training for a half a little over two years ago but after three months into it, I found out I was preggo and that ended it. Now it's time to do it again and I am so excited about it!

2. Eating. My family and best friends know that I am a huge foodie. I don't eat because I'm hungry. I eat because it's my hobby. I love all types of food and I love to try new foods. I am not a picky eater at all. I eat a lot too. Maybe this is why I run...so I can eat. Whenever I have the tv on for background noise, it's on the Food Network. I like looking at food. I even dream of food daily. Speaking of eating....it's almost time for lunch. Yesss.

3. Top 40. As indie as I like to be, I am not a big indie music person. There was a time when I was younger and I had more time to go to local shows and scour the internet for unknown bands but not anymore. I confess that when I listen to the radio, it's on a Top 40 station. I can't help it. I love shaking my hips to the hypnotic beats of Britney Spears. I love bopping my head to the Black Eyed Peas. I love belting out tunes with Kelly Clarkson. I also listen to classic country... specifically the 90's. I love Reba McEntire and King George. The cry of a fiddle and the twang of a steel guitar makes me think of my childhood and how I want to go live in a cabin in the country. Love love love.

4. Football. Ben turned me into a huge football fan. After learning the rules and watching the games, I am addicted. I love the Dallas Cowboys and finally started to get into college ball. This summer, I want to learn the strategies and plays in football to get ready for the new season.

5. TV. I am addicted to TV. I have a gazillion shows DVRed to my system to watch. Right now, my favorites are GLEE!!!, Grey's Anatomy, The Practice, Flash Forward, The Office, Parks and Red, and SNL. There's more...oh trust me, there's more.

So there you go. These are the things that I do besides sewing and drawing and taking care of my child. What are somethings that you do???

Have a happy Tuesday!

My Love

Ben and I started dating almost 4 years ago. It all started at the YMCA. I was working there and he was a member of the gym. One day, a coworker of mine told me that Ben was interested in me after a conversation they had. I thought, "The cute guy with the Texas tattoo? No way." It just didn't seem like this country boy would be remotely interested in the indie Asian girl. A couple of days later, I received a phone call at work from no other than the cute blonde country boy. He told me he was interested and wanted to take me out and I accepted. 4 years later, we are still together and going strong and we produced a beautiful little boy.

This picture was taken when we first started dating. Please ignore our crazy faces taken with a disposable camera.

I never was a fan of Valentine's day. I just spent so much money for Christmas and now I am obligated to get a gift for Valentine's? No, thank you. However, I do like the idea of celebrating your love. Instead of spending my hard earned money on the flower, candy, and greeting card companies, I will save my money and do things that really come from the heart. From now until Valentine's, I am leaving one note a day for Ben that starts, "I love you because _________________". Something fun and silly can be written in there or something that truly means a lot.

I love you because you sing silly songs and dance crazy with me.

I challenge you to do the same this Valentine's day!

I Sew

I first started embroidering in high school. I always had a love for threads and needles and fabrics and thought how cool would it be to create art using that type of medium. I would embroider little things and then eventually I started doing it on tee shirts for me and my friends. That eventually started turning into a little business and I was making shirts for a lot of the kiddos I taught in the youth group.

That died out for about a year or so as I pursued my then English degree. One day, I was walking through Target and saw they were selling a little portable sewing machine for $15. I couldn't resist. I bought it, got fabric, and created my first pillow that day. I was hooked on sewing.

I have taught myself how to sew by looking at tutorials online or by error and trial. I really want to take a couple of sewing classes to learn more though. I am also a self taught artist but being in school studying art for the last semester or so has really changed a lot for me as an artist. I've learned things that have made me become better and have made great friends along the way and I want to do the same for sewing. Does anyone know if there are any good online classes? I was looking at Jo Ann's classes the other day as well as small quilting shops that had classes. I guess I'll have to keep researching and pick the one that feels right for me. And by feeling right I mean that works with my schedule. :)

My favorite thing to sew are quilts. It is so satisfying to give someone you care about a quilt that you've made. Quilts are so comforting, warm, and loving. I've all been drawn to them since I was little. My mom keeps all of our old blankets and quilts from when we (my brother and I) were kids and now they're soooo soooo soft and the best to sleep under.

I have two quilts slowly being sewed right now. One for me and Ben for our bed and the other...I'm not sure. It was just a fun quilt I started and hopefully will finish soon. I have 3 quilts I want to make this year as well. I better get started soon, huh? I guess that calls for a trip to the fabric store... :)
